Top-60 Recruit Commits to Seton Hall

Javion Tyndale led the Canadian National Team to a Gold Medal at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup in Mexico this summer

Javion Tyndale, A four-star point guard out of Montverde Academy has committed to Seton Hall University, he confirmed with Southeast Hoops Report on Monday.

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound senior point guard chose the Pirates over Loyola-Chicago, St. Bonaventure, Providence, UNLV, and West Virginia. Before trimming his list down to six schools, Tyndale was being recruited by Bowling Green, East Carolina, Charlotte, Kent State, Ohio, Richmond, and Stephen F. Austin.

Tyndale is the No. 57 overall-ranked player in the nation, the No. 12 ranked point guard, and the No. 12 overall-ranked player in the state of Florida in the upcoming recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports.

“Coach Holloway was one of the best small guards to play the game, so it would be an honor to learn from someone who can relate to me and my game,” Tyndale told 247Sports. “Every time I looked up or picked up my phone, it was Coach Shaheen (Holloway) or Coach Rasheen (Davis),” Tyndale added.

During the Grassroots season, Tyndale played for his hometown UPlay Canada, where he averaged 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

Tyndale is a native of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and moved to the United States before his junior year of high school, when he transferred to Montverde Academy. Over the summer, Tyndale helped lead Canada to the Gold Medal at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup when they defeated the United States. In five games played, Tyndale averaged 12.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 44.7% on his two-point field goals and struggled from behind the three-point line, where he shot just 23.8% as well as shooting 63.6% from the free-throw line.

Scouting Report on Javion Tyndale: Tyndale operates with a mature tempo, rarely getting sped up, even against aggressive defensive pressure. His decision-making in the pick-and-roll is advanced for his age; he consistently makes the right read, whether it’s dropping a pocket pass to a rolling big or making the skip pass to the weak side for an open shooter. On the defensive end, he’s a pest, using his quickness and low center of gravity to stay in front of ball-handlers, often disrupting passing lanes and generating deflections. His ability to change direction with the ball is exceptional, allowing him to penetrate gaps and put pressure on the rim, even though he’s often looking to create for others once he gets there. He controls the rhythm of the game, knows when to push, and understands when to pull back, which is a rare trait in younger guards.
