The 5-foot-8 rising senior point guard played a pivotal role representing Team Canada at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup Championships this past week that were held in Leon, Mexico.

Javion Tyndale was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the FIBA U18 AmeriCup 2026, where he led Team Canada to their first-ever gold medal in the competition’s history. The 5-foot-8 point guard plays high school basketball at the prestigious Montverde Academy under head coach Steve Turner, who took over for the legendary Kevin Boyle, who left after the 2024-2025 season to take the job at SPIRE Academy in Ohio.

Tyndale finished with 19 points on 6-of-19 shooting from the field, 5-of-6 from the free throw line, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in a 67-65 win over the United States. The 5-foot-8 senior point guard led the tournament in assists, where he averaged six per game to go along with 12.6 points and 2.0 steals per game.

Tyndale is not the only Canadian representative taking home hardware from this week’s 18U AmeriCup, as Bella Vista Prep rising senior shooting guard Lyris Robinson was named to the All-First Team. Robinson was the team’s leading scorer, where he averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard recorded a double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds) in the 115-49 semifinal win over Puerto Rico to clinch a spot in the Championship Game.

The Mississauga, Ontario native is coming off a stellar junior season with Montverde Academy, where he averaged 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 42% from the field and 39% from the three-point line.

During the Grassroots season, Tyndale plays for UPLAY Canada on the Nike EYBL circuit, where he came off an impressive showing at Session 1 in Atlanta back in April, where he averaged 23.3 points in three games played, in which they picked up wins over Team Herro and PSA Cardinals.

On the recruiting trail, Tyndale has picked up nearly a dozen offers from schools such as Bowling Green, East Carolina, Ohio, Providence, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Stephen F. Austin, UNLV, and West Virginia.
