The No. 54 overall-ranked recruit in the class of 2027 has decided to stay in-state for his collegiate basketball career.
Justin Wise, A 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard out of North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia, will be staying in-state as he announced he has committed to the University of Georgia on Friday. Wise picked the Bulldogs over Clemson, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt, and several others.
Before trimming his list down to six, Wise was receiving offers from schools such as California, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, SMU, Stetson, and Villanova.
Wise becomes the first recruit in the upcoming recruiting cycle for Mike White and the Georgia Bulldogs where he picked an in-state target. They are also pursuing in-state targets such as four-star shooting guards Jarvis Hayes Jr, Chase Lumpkin, and four-star small forward Asa Montgomery.
Wise is ranked as the No. 5 shooting guard and the No. 54 overall-ranked player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports.
“I saw how the offense runs and what they like to do with certain players. Knowing their sets helps me with my decision going forward I know all the players pretty well,” Wise told 247Sports Recruiting Analyst Brandon Jenkins following his official visit.
During the Grassroots season, Wise played with Jet Academy on the Nike EYBL Circuit, where he averaged 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals in five games at the Peach Jam last month, where Jet Academy went 2-3 in five games played. He also shot 37.2 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from behind the arc, and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Earlier in the summer, Wise competed at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he moved seamlessly between the one and two in this setting. He shot the ball very well off the catch, and that might be his superpower at the next level. However, he advanced the ball well when pushing and moved it to open teammates in the half-court. A low-maintenance guy who raises the floor of his team.”
He looked very comfortable in this setting as a go-to scorer. The 6-foot-4 guard showed he can play on-ball as a primary initiator, but on Thursday at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, he self-created advantages and finished plays at multiple levels. He had 18 points on 6-11 shooting in his first game.”
Scouting Report on Justin Wise: Wise possesses a smooth, repeatable stroke that allows him to connect consistently from beyond the arc, even with a hand in his face. He’s adept at moving without the ball, relocating to open spots, and hitting catch-and-shoot opportunities with quick release. Furthermore, his ability to create his own shot off the dribble is a major asset, showing a burgeoning handle and a solid understanding of changing speeds to keep defenders off balance. He’s also a surprisingly strong finisher around the rim, utilizing soft touch and body control to convert through contact.
