By: Southeast Hoops Report

St. Thomas University landed a commit from three-star shooting guard Thomas Vickery, out of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday. Phenom Hoops Report was the first to break the news.

The 6-foot-5 senior shooting guard chose St. Thomas over notable Division-1 offers such as California, Clemson, Mississippi State, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, and several others. He was also hearing from notable schools such as Appalachian State, East Carolina, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, and Ohio University.

During his junior season, Vickery played for Myers Park High School, averaging 18 points per game while shooting 48% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc. Vickery still has plenty of consistency left, and he can be a dynamic three-level scoring threat both off the catch and off the bounce. He was also named to the Charlotte Observer All-Second Team as a junior last season.

Scouting Report on Thomas Vickery

Vickery brings good size and explosiveness along with his shot-making ability, and he can play multiple positions, as well as find success even when the basketball is not in his hands. He’s also a solid rebounder for his size, where he can apply pressure on opposing defenses and dictate the tempo in transition-scoring opportunities. He also shows a great feel for cutting and relocating off the ball, showing a high basketball IQ that’s ahead of a lot of players at this stage, and he competes on the glass for a perimeter player, using his length to grab rebounds outside of his coverage area. Overall, his defensive versatility alone gives him a realistic path to being a valuable role player on a high-major roster.
