By: Ross Van De Griek

RJ Moore, A 6-foot-6 shooting guard will be making his first of many official visits September 1-3 as he confirmed with Southeast Hoops Report that he will be visiting Rutgers. The news was first reported by 247Sports’ Dushawn London.

The four-star rising senior out of Ambassador Christian School in Huntersville, North Carolina, currently holds over a dozen offers from notable schools such as Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Utah, Virginia, Wake Forest, and several others.

Moore has been playing with Team United on the Nike EYBL Circuit this spring, where he is averaging 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1 steal per game during league play. He has also suited up for Team Thad which is also a part of the Nike EYBL Circuit where he put on a strong performance during Session 3 in Kansas City earlier in the spring.

Moore is the son of Ricky Moore, who currently serves as an Assistant Coach at North Carolina A&T where he has held the position since 2023. He has also previously served as an assistant coach at Dartmouth (2010-2012) and the University of Connecticut (2013-2018) where he played his collegiate career from 1995 to 1999. He was a part of the Huskies’ 2014 National Championship team, where he coached under head coach Kevin Ollie. In June of 2021, Moore was named the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Northwest Cabarrus High School, where he spent two seasons with the Trojans and finished with a 26-24 record.

Moore talks about his recruitment with On3’s Jamie Shaw here:

FLORIDA STATE: “They play really well. I saw them play at the ACC Tournament, and I like what they do; I think they have a good offseason, and they have some really good players coming in. I got to watch them a few times on TV, too. They use their shooters well. They like to have bigger guards, too, so that is a good thing.”

GEORGIA TECH: “Their old staff got let go, and I got an offer from them. But the new staff have picked things up. They came to watch me play at the NBPA Top 100 Camp and at the EYBL Live Period. So things have been good with them.”

SYRACUSE: “My dad (Rickey) coached with Ryan Daly’s brother (Colin) at North Carolina A&T, so we have a good relationship. My dad knows them pretty well and feels comfortable around them for sure. Coach (McNamara) coached at Siena, and they almost beat Duke in the Tournament. They like that I can shoot the ball and create for my teammates or myself.”

UTAH: “I have known Coach (Childress) for a long time, and he has definitely been in my corner since Day 1.” He goes back with my Dad when they were coaching at UConn together.

VANDERBILT: “I like how Coach (Byington) coaches as he gets the most out of his players day in and day out. I went to a game at Wake Forest when they played Vanderbilt, so I saw them play live last year. And I like the way they play. He lets his guards shoot, and they play fast. They like how I’m able to shoot the ball and my feel for the game.”

VIRGINIA: “I like the way that Coach (Odom) coaches them. They space the floor and play fast. They’re a shooting team. I like their offense and how they play.”

Scouting Report on Moore: Moore is a big guard with elite shot-making abilities, along with scoring prowess, and he can score on all three levels. He has a smooth jump shot that can be effective both off the catch and on the bounce. He also adds great length and versatility where he can guard positions 1 through 4 along with elite athleticism from the guard position.
