Charlie Ward and the Florida A&M Rattlers land their highest ranked prospect in program history on Saturday:

Camden Cooper, A 6-foot-7 rising senior shooting guard out of San Jose Preparatory School in Jacksonville, Florida, confirmed with Southeast Hoops Report that he has committed to Florida A&M following an official visit on Saturday.
Cooper, is a three-star prospect who had nearly a dozen offers from schools such as Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Jacksonville, North Florida, Queens University, Stetson, and Texas A&M.
“My relationship with Coach (Ward), Coach (Lazarus), and the staff felt like family. They believe in my skills and will help me to make me a great player and a great man.” Cooper told Southeast Hoops Report on why he chose Florida A&M.
Cooper has been an outstanding spring season so far, in which he is playing Grassroots basketball with Swift Sports, which is part of the New Balance/Prelude32 League. Through the early portion of the circuit, Cooper has emerged as one of the most productive scorers in the league, averaging nearly 20 points per game while consistently showcasing his ability to score at all three levels, create for teammates, and lead his team in high-level competition.
Cooper’s rise has been years in the making. A rare talent who began playing varsity basketball as a sixth grader, he has built one of the most impressive careers in recent memory. Over the course of his varsity career, Cooper has accumulated nearly 2,000 points, a milestone that reflects both his consistency and longevity against older competition.
Cooper spent the 2024-2025 season playing at St. John’s Country Day in the greater Jacksonville area, where he averaged 18.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.3 steals per game during his freshman season. He had played with St. John’s Country Day, where he was a starter since he was in seventh grade, where he averaged 17.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Spartans.
He could also be well on his way to set the Northeast Florida career scoring record of Myron Anthony, who tallied 2,738 points at Fletcher between 1993 and 1997, although Anthony attained that mark in only four seasons before going on to play at the University of Kentucky.
Cooper recently re-classified from 2028 to 2027, where he is ranked 119th overall, 30th-ranked shooting guard, and the 13th overall-ranked player, according to On3.
Florida A&M has found quick stability. In the 2025–26 season, Ward outperformed media predictions by guiding the team to a 15–16 overall record and a deep run to the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament semifinals.
