The Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC) Live Period opening session is complete, and we turn our attention to some players who raised the most stock throughout the event. Here are eight (8) players we thought are turning the corner at a possible start in their recruitment process.

By: Ross Van De Griek

6-6 SF Bryce Hoffert, Windermere HS (FL), Sunshine Elite 17U OTR

Hoffert demonstrates a strong IQ and great feel for the game, where he can be efficient inside as well as outside on the offensive end. When operating out on the perimeter, the 6-foot-6 rising senior wing isn’t afraid to display a smooth shooting stroke off the catch as well as the bounce. On the defensive end, he displays a ton of heart and hustle, whether it’s winning the 50/50 possession or snatching down timely rebounds using his length to his advantage. Overall, Hoffert is starting to emerge on college coaches radars where he has picked up a handful of Division II offers such as Barry University, Rollins, and Saint Leo over the last couple of days.

6-5 SG Nate Accius, Coral Glades (FL), Team Gold Coast 17U OTR

The 6-foot-5 rising senior shooting guard does most of his scoring when it comes to transition offense, where he uses his burst of speed to get to the front of the rim, as well as stopping on a dime when it comes to his efforts when shooting from the perimeter. He also uses his size and athleticism when it comes to patrolling the glass, where he limits the opposition from getting second-chance scoring opportunities. He doesn’t shy away when it comes to absorbing contact at the front of the rim where he earns trips to the free-throw line on numerous occasions.

6-1 PG Carter Oden, Oviedo HS (FL), Showtime Ballers 17U New Balance/P32 League

The 6-foot-1 rising senior point guard is a true floor general who brings a combination of athleticism, toughness, and a high motor. He shows a good burst of speed when playing in the open court, where he can finish at the front of the rim, knock down tough shots in the mid-range, and play with a ton of confidence out on the perimeter. Oden is a smart guard and knows when to get his teammates involved as well as play under control when it comes to taking over down the stretch in games. On defense, he is above-average athlete who can play at the rim as well as pursue the passing lanes to get deflections which lead to scores on the other end of the floor.

6-3 SG Donovan Swain, Coral Glades HS (FL), Team Gold Coast 17U OTR

The 6-foot-3 rising senior shooting guard gets his burst of scoring early and often in games where he displays a ton of confidence and a great feel overall for his game. On offense, he gets to his spots when playing off the ball with his consistent movement and can knock down shots from all three scoring levels in the half-court. On the defensive end, he brings athleticism and length when it comes to playing above the rim, where he alters shots as well as snatches down timely rebounds. Overall, his great feel for the game and his impact on both ends of the floor could spell for a big second half of the summer leading up to college coaches showing interest entering his senior season.

6-4 CG Orlando Roche, Belen Jesuit HS (FL), Team Miami PRO16

The 6-foot-4 senior combo guard mixes in a blend of scoring and playmaking on the offensive end. He can make an impact on all three scoring levels, which was shown when I watched their opening game against Milton on Saturday. Roche also made huge strides in his off-ball movement, where he put pressure on the defenses with his perimeter shooting threat. On defense, he rebounds at a high level and is unafraid when it comes to pushing pace and playing under control in transition scoring opportunities.

6-0 PG Neomar Flores, Tampa Catholic HS (FL), Showtime Ballers 17U New Balance/P32 League

The 6-foot rising senior guard plays with a ton of hustle and energy on both ends of the floor. On offense, he is a steady three-level scorer who can operate off the catch and bounce. He is also capable of being a transition scoring threat when he is the primary ball-handler, where he plays with poise, pace, and patience. On defense, he plays with a ton of heart, where he is battling for the 50/50 possessions, snatching down timely rebounds at the rim, and pursuing the passing lanes where he gets deflections, which lead to scores on the other end of the floor. Overall, Flores is a smart player with a high-IQ and great feel for the game which could open some eyes for college coaches to start recruiting him. He holds offers from Arkansas State (D1), Indian River State College (JUCO), and Daytona State College (JUCO).

6-6 SG Anthony Brown, Boca Ciega HS (FL), 1Family Hoops PRO16

The 6-foot-6 rising senior shooting guard makes a strong impact on the glass on both ends of the floor, where he uses his explosiveness and athleticism to his advantage. He also provides his team length on both ends of the floor, where he gives his team extra possessions with his ability to snatch down timely rebounds and limit the opposition from getting second-chance scoring opportunities. In transition scoring opportunities, Brown uses his speed and plays under control, where he is unafraid when it comes to absorbing contact at the front of the rim. He consistently applies pressure on the defense, where he is able to score on all three levels, as well as make strong passes to his teammates in the half-court offense. Brown has steadily emerged as one of the top two-way players in the state for his class.

6-10 Center Amauri Walton, William M. Raines HS (FL), Swift Sports Only

The 6-foot-10 rising senior center brings a combination skill set of length, size, and explosiveness on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end, he plays inside as well as outside with elite footwork and the ability to finish above the rim with either hand. He is also unafraid when it comes to absorbing contact where he draws fouls and earns trips to the free-throw line. On the defensive end, he brings toughness, length, and strength, and he can guard multiple positions. Overall, his versatility on both ends of the floor and capability of scoring on multiple levels on the offensive end could spell a big summer in his recruitment this summer.
