Wake Forest landed a big-time recruit in the upcoming recruiting class, just a couple of weeks before the 2026-2027 regular season tips off. Four-star power forward Jayon Connor, out of Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina will be staying home to play his collegiate career as he announced his commitment to the Demon Deacons on Friday.

Connor chose the Demon Deacons over Charlotte, NC State, Virginia Tech, and a handful of others. He was also being recruited by Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Houston, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia.

“I chose Wake because I really enjoyed the environment and had made a good connection with the staff. I like that it is close to home. I have built a great relationship with the coaches, from eating dinner and lunch with them to going to their exhibition games,” Connor told On3’s Joe Tipton. “The fans better be ready because I’m going to give it my all every single game. The hometown kid is going to make a name for himself”, he added.

Connor is rated as the No. 86 overall-ranked player, the No. 16 power forward, and the No. 3 overall-ranked player in the state of North Carolina in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports.

During his junior season at Forsyth Country Day School, Connor averaged 20.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 62% from the field, according to MaxPreps. On the offensive end, Connor did most of his scoring around the basket, whether it was finishing around the rim or in the mid-range. His shooting touch is going to need some development once he gets to the next level, as he is projected to be a wing or a small power forward depending on the lineup on the floor.

During the Nike EYBL Peach Jam, Connor played with Team CP3, where he averaged 15.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 61% from the field in six games played.

Connor becomes the second commit for Steve Forbes and the Demon Deacons in the upcoming recruiting cycle, where he joins four-star combo guard Quincy Douby Jr., who committed back in August.

Scouting Report on Jayon Connor

Connor operates as a modern power forward, where he is comfortable facing the basket, exposing a smooth mid-range jumper, and is still willing to put his shoulder into defenders on the block when the matchup calls for it. He has continued to show a great feel for the game, which shows up most in transition, where he runs the floor hard and finishes above the rim rather than settling for a jumper he doesn’t need. On the defensive end, he’s got the length to bother shots at the rim and the lateral quickness to stay attached to quicker forwards on the perimeter, though he’s still learning when to help and when to stay home. He doesn’t force the issue. Overall, Connor is projected to be a stretch four who can guard multiple positions and contribute in a complementary role early, with upside to grow into a primary front-court option if the jumper extends to the three-point line.
