Marquette has landed a commitment from one of the top rising centers in the 2027 class on Friday. Four-star center Akol Nyok becomes the third commit for Shaka Smart and the Golden Eagles in the upcoming recruiting class.

The 7-foot-1 senior center out of Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida, chose the Golden Eagles over Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, and several others. He was also receiving offers from Arkansas State, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Duquesne, Saint Louis, Santa Clara, and UC-Santa Barbara.

Nyok is rated as the No. 103 overall player in the nation, the No. 13 center, and the No. 22 overall-ranked player in the state of Florida in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports.

Nyok Had A Strong Summer on the Grassroots circuit

During the Grassroots season, Nyok played with Tre Mann Elite on the PRO16 Puma circuit, where his stock continued to raise upwards. Virginia Tech made a strong push for Nyok during the July live period in Bryan, Texas where it was down to a two-school race between the Hokies and Golden Eagles.

Nyok Took Two Official Visits During Recruitment

He took two official visits to Marquette back in July and Virginia Tech last month before ultimately making the decision to commit to Shaka Smart and the Golden Eagles.

Nyok joins Academy of Central Florida four-star shooting guard Marlon Martinez, who committed to the Golden Eagles back in August. Four-star power forward Philipe Ndong out of The Newman School in Boston, announced his commitment to the Golden Eagles last month.

Scouting Report on Akol Nyok

Nyok operates mostly around the rim right now, which makes sense given his age and feel for the game. He does a great job of getting out in transition and finishing over smaller defenders who can’t match his length. On the defensive end, his length changes shots he’s not even directly guarding — he’s the kind of presence that forces guards to adjust their shot angle in the paint. He uses his length and size well as a rim protector, but his footwork and positioning are still catching up to his height. Overall, Nyok is a solid rotation big who defends and finishes what’s given to him, and he can make an immediate impact at the next level.
