IMG Academy landed another impact player for the upcoming season on Wednesday. The latest is 6-foot-10 junior power forward Bentley Lusakueno, who comes from Woodward Academy in the greater Atlanta area.
Lusakueno is the No. 9 overall-ranked prospect, the No. 1 power forward, and the top-ranked player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2028, according to 247Sports. He currently holds 16 Division 1 offers from notable schools such as Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Iowa, among several others. He has not scheduled any upcoming visits as of right now.
During his sophomore season at Woodward Academy, Lusakueno averaged 15.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 49% from the field, 39% from behind the three-point line, and 76% from the free-throw line, according to MaxPreps. During the Grassroots season, Lusakueno played for Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL Circuit where he averaged 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
BENTLEY LUSAKUENO TALKS ABOUT HIS RECRUITMENT WITH ON3’S JAMIE SHAW:
GEORGIA: “They had Asa (Newell) a couple of years ago, and I know him a little bit. Again, he is a similar dude with a similar body type. They’re a local school, and they’ve developed an NBA player who is kind of like me.
GEORGIA TECH: “They have a new coaching staff this year. Scott (Cross) is a great coach, and he has a great coaching staff around him. They talk a lot with my dad. The campus is right in the middle of the city, and I love Atlanta. And they’re a great school. They’re unveiling new things and investing a lot into basketball, which has been great to see.”
MIAMI: “I was really impressed with Jai (Lucas) in what he brought in Year 1 to the program.” I’ve also had a great relationship with Coach (Young), and we talk a lot about them.
MISSOURI: “They have a great program and a great coach in Dennis (Gates). My guy Jason Crowe is going there now, so it should be cool. It’ll be cool to watch how they do this year.
VANDERBILT: “They have a great program, winning a lot right now. Coach (Byington) is a great coach. The SEC has traditionally been all football, but Vanderbilt has really invested in basketball recently, so that’s been good to see. And they’re a good school.”
Scouting Report on Bentley Lusakueno: Lusakueno’s primary offensive weapon is his shooting ability, which allows him to space the floor effectively and pull opposing bigs away from the rim. He can hit from deep in catch-and-shoot situations, showing good form and a fluid release. On the defensive end, his significant length is a major factor, as he contests shots naturally and alters passing lanes using his size and speed to his advantage. Overall, his combination of offensive spacing and defensive disruption is what makes him such an intriguing prospect and a potential key factor on both ends of the court.
