One of the top ranked prospects in the upcoming sophomore class will remain in the Sunshine State after playing his freshman season at The Rock School in Gainesville.

Rising sophomore 6-foot-6 guard Avery Jones is staying in the Gainesville area and will now play for Oak Hall School, his father (Ryan) confirmed with Southeast Hoops Report late last week.

Jones spent the 2025-2026 high school season playing under Mackenzie Williams at The Rock School, which was a part of the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA), where he played significant minutes as a freshman. Last season, Jones averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

During the Grassroots season, Jones played for Austin Rivers SE Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, where he averaged 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, and shot 90% from the free-throw line. As an eighth-grader during the 2024-2025 season, Jones averaged 9.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, according to MaxPreps.

His recruitment got started as an eighth-grader, when he picked up his first Division-1 offer from Liberty University. He also picked up an offer from Florida A&M earlier this summer and is expected to receive more offers for years to come. He has also picked up interest from several schools such as Florida State, Miami, Purdue, Texas Tech, UCF, among others.

Oak Hall finished the 2025-2026 season with a 13-11 record and did not qualify for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A playoffs. The Eagles look to return to the postseason for the first time since 2024, where they are led by 4th-year head coach Che Roth.

The Eagles retain their leading scorer from a season ago, 6-foot-2 junior guard Max Whitmer, and 6-foot-3 junior wing Correy Brooks Jr. Also look for 5-foot-9 sophomore guard Cash Roth to make an impact for the Eagles this upcoming season.
